This is how we will be working on our Computer Tech class and communicating with each other this semester. Each day, I will post your assignment(s) and you can refer to this page from home or at school.
Search for "Wood" in the search box and choose "Mr. Wood's Computer Tech" folder.
Take ALL 5 quizzes. At the end, it will give you definitions for the words you missed. Print your results and write down the answers for the ones you missed. Staple ALL 5 quizzes together and turn them into me.
I will be making a terminology quiz out of the words that most people in the class miss that you will take at a later date.

Today, we will begin working on defining some key concepts in Computer Technology. Each of you will be put into a group and each group will be to become an expert in one area. Choose from the concepts below to pick the group you will belong to. Come to me and sign up for a group. First come, first serve, so have an alterna te choice or two.
Once you have chosen a group and I have assigned it to you, you will need to do some research to find the definitions of the core concepts posted on your group page. For each word, you will find a definition for the word and add it to the wiki. You need to also have links to the websites where you found the definitions, for example, if I was defining virus, it could look like this:
A virus is a computer program that has been designed to reproduce itself. Contrary to popular belief, not all viruses are harmful.
You will notice that if you click on the word virus, you will be taken to the wikipedia entry for Computer Virus that shows where I got some of my information for my definition.
Everyone in the group must participate in this activity, however, it will be easier if only one of you at a time is actually editing the page.
If you are defining a tangible item that you can find a picture of, include a small picture on your page (YES, you have to!). If you use Google Image Search and click on the Advanced Search, you can search for only images that are small.
You will be graded on your topic, so take it seriously. You will be adding more than just definitions and pictures in the future.

Some assignments will be done on the wikispaces site, so your first assignment is to learn how to use it. Your assignment today is to follow the links below to learn how a wiki works. Then, you will create your own wiki page with the information requested below.
Create your own wiki page on my site. Use bold, different heading sizes, and the horizontal rule tool appropriately. Avoid using the underline because underlined text looks like a link and can be confusing.
On your page, include your class schedule this semester.
insert a picture (school appropriate) that represents who you are or what you like.
>> (Hint: Find a picture you like and right click on it to download it and save it to your computer and then, use the picture tool to upload it to your wiki.)
Make a numbered list of three things you learned about wikis.
Make a bulleted list of three things you want to learn in Computer Tech.
